With more technology, control over the ships circulating through the waterway will increase

The General Administration of Ports (AGP), which reports to the Department of Transportation, signed an agreement with Ubatec, the technology facility of the University of Buenos Aires, to integrate technology into the Main Navigable Way (VNT) infrastructure. “In this way, the monitoring and information flows of the road are to be modernized and thus more efficient and safer navigation is to be generated,” they report from AGP.

The agreement includes Implementation of technological support in different steps of the path and establishment of a monitoring center to integrate data processing.

“In these 6 months of government administration, not only have we maintained the existing infrastructure, but we are adding technology that will improve the efficiency of navigation, and therefore Logistic costs decrease. It’s important to note that we’re doing this with real resources coming from the highway administration itself”confirmed Jose Beni, auditor of the AGP, to LA NACION.

The technology will be installed at five monitoring points along the waterway and controlled remotely from the VNT Monitoring and Management Center. They will be equipped with automatic identification systems to know that Identification, course, speed (among others) of the vessels detected along the canal; there will be rdares distinguish between ships that issue their identification and those that are recognized as having no identification; Dual spectrum cameras to visualize the ships bypassing the checkpoint in all light and weather conditions; and weather stations equipped with towers and antennas.

Each point will in turn have intelligent multi-parameter road environmental maintenance buoys, allowing for real-time monitoring and data processing. Through this technology it will be possible to identify and monitor ships, barges and small craft on the main shipping lane and to know the navigational, hydrometeorological, dredging and buoy conditions.
