Hubble telescope

The idea of a large telescope orbiting the Earth was proposed in 1946 by Lyman Spitzer, more than a decade before the Soviet Union launched the first Sputnik I satellite.

In over 3 decades in Earth’s orbit, the Hubble Space Telescope has repeatedly broken records and pushed the boundaries of scientific knowledge. His most recent discovery was the identification of the farthest star ever seen, called Earendel, its light took 12.9 billion years to capture and is estimated to be 50 times larger than the Sun.
